In diagram 1L the orange midfielder has broken through and could create a 2v1 with the center forward in front of the goal. Ben has chosen this moment to move inside, taking his defender with him. This kills the space that the orange team needs.
In diagram 1R the center forward has broken through to the center of the defense and now faces two defenders and the goal keeper. Pete watches from the wing and is no help in this situation.
In diagram 2L Ben has crossed the ball into the opposing goal keeper. This is not a technical problem. He passes the ball too early, failing to either draw out one or more of the opponents or going inside himself for a shot.In diagram 2R Pete has missed a chance to pass to the open center forward and chosen instead to dribble to the corner flag. There he is met by a defender and has also given the other defenders time to recover.
